Uber has Begun, Celestial it is!

(I felt like Yoda speak was appropriate for the morning today :P)

This months round of Uber has begun and it's theme is Celestial!  This seemes to be a popular theme and I hope this continues.  Last month Totally Top Shelf has a similar theme, Out of This World, and it was fantastic.  I will not lie to you about events and both Uber and Top Shelf delivered.  I kind of went a little nuts at Top Shelf so my funds were not as high for Uber.  But that is okay!  I love to come and just window shop and see all the cool things creators have made.  If there any must go to fashion events to attend each month Uber should be one of them.  The past few months have been absolutely spectacular and are not to be missed.  There are lots of exclusives and, of course, Truth has their new hair for 50L off their store costs.  I am a hair freak and always check out what Truth has to offer here.  :)  Check out this event before it ends.  There is something here for everyone.

Smart Shopping: Get the Right AO for You

PLEASE NOTE: Please try the demo's inworld for all AO’s.  And when I say try I mean really play with them.

What is an Animation Override or AO: Watch this youtube video here. to learn more
Essentially, it allows your avatar to not look like its standing and walking like it has a stick up its ass!  lol

Oracul AO AD
So, I was once like most of you and made a couple (okay more than a couple) not so great AO purchases in SL that cost me quite a bit of Linden.  It was annoying to say the least.  One minute my avi was fine and then the next thing I know she starts doing a booty dance and smacking her ass like she’s a stripper.  “Hmmm, I don’t remember seeing that part of the animation!”  I would get fed up with my avi constantly looking like she has ants in her pants or like she has to pee really badly.  And I know many of you out there feel the same.  But it isn’t just the creators who are to blame, no way, its us, the buyers not thoroughly testing these AO’s out.  Below are some tips on how to select the best AO’s as well as basic reviews for some of the AO stores I have come across.  I have also included SLURLs to the stores I review so you can go take a look for yourself.  Please keep in mind that we all have different styles we are trying to achieve.  I will never ever knock one creator over another (unless for good reason).  What is my cup of tea might not necessarily be yours.

AO Shopping Tips:

·        Watch the FULL animations.  This means the whole 20-60 seconds per stand and then walks, dances etc. The biggest mistake I see others make is only trying each pose/stand in a demo for maybe 10 seconds or less and then skipping on to the next.  Many do not even go through all stands, walks, sits, dances, etc.  This is bad and will lead to an unwanted purchase!  I know, I used to do this very thing and have some AO’s that just are not for me.
·        Plan on making it a long shopping trip.  This shouldn't be a 10-15 minute excursion.  AO’s can get very expensive and if you don’t want a regrettable purchase then take your damn time.  This goes along with watching the full animations.
·        Are there youtube videos provided?  Watch those!  It is one thing to demo each individual piece but it’s a whole ‘nother ballgame to actually see how fluid the AO can be.  An example of this is a purchase of a very expensive AO from a creator who I was told is one of the best in SL.  While I love the AO the stands are not fluid and my avi kept going into stick up the butt mode (what I call non-AO avi stands) in between stand animations.  It got so annoying I had to get another.  An issue like this would be fully evident in a video demo of the AO.  Unfortunately, this creator does not provide videos but they do provide free updates!  So who knows, this issue may be fixed in the future.
·        Price does not always indicate quality.  That’s right, yes some of the best AO’s are expensive but there are some AO’s that are reasonable cost and are top quality.  You just have to really play around with what you get.
·        Ask around in groups.  This is a gem of an idea and you will get lots of responses from others with their honest review and opinions.  This has helped me tremendously in my search for good mesh clothing, big boobie and big butt friendly AOs.

Here are some shops I have purchased AO’s from (not just demoed).  I will also list the AO’s purchased and my review of such AO’s.  Remember, this is just my opinion.  I know these creators work very hard on their products.  Some just suited me more than others.  A common complaint I will address is the walks and runs for many female AO’s.  OMG, these are mocap right?  Who the hell walks and runs like some of these AO’s?  So many runs for females make me look like a prissy little girl who doesn’t want to get her hands and feet wet or I look like a damn prancing horse!  Heelllooooo, most people don’t look that stupid when they run.
·        Akeyo Animations – This is an SL favorite it seems and for good reason.  The animations for the AO’s I have demoed are beautiful.  There are few AO’s to pick from but what is available are nice.  The cost is about 1900L so it is on the higher end of pricing.  There is a free male and female Nano AO available for new avi’s.  With that said I only own 1 of their AO’s while my friends own some of the others.  We all seem to have similar likes/dislikes concerning this brand. Their AO’s seem to have the standard girls run like sissy girls or walk really odd animations and no other options for regular walks and runs.  For 1900L I better get some better options.  I most recently purchased the Giana Wild AO for big boobies.  It is a great AO, very subtle and sexy and so beautiful, but it has a major issue, the stands aren't fluid when they switch.  It drove me insane.  But all their products get free updates (a major plus!) so maybe this will be addressed in the future.
Mimi AO Ad
·        Vista Animations – I love this AO store but like all the others you have to watch the entire animation!  Some are up to 60 seconds.  If you watch only 10 seconds of a stand you will miss the part where your avi will start air gyrating her hips and smacking her booty at 45 seconds in.  (lol)  The best AO’s I own I have purchased from here and various alt’s I use have their main AO from here.  They offer busty friendly AO’s and mesh clothing friendly versions too.  I almost never have this AO conflict with animations from other sources, which is another plus though I still turn my AO off just in case.  The cost is from very low 250L to 1900L high end AO’s.  Vista also has the added benefit of having youtube videos of their AOs.  Some of the AO’s I own from there that I highly recommend are the Sensual Woman AO, Most Wanted AO, Rachel AO (my current most used AO), and the Divine Girl AO.
·        Oracul/Kuso – This is the best place for newbies or alt’s to get AO’s.  Oracul makes some wonderful AO’s for a real low cost, 300L with individual animations going for 10L each.  I still come to Oracul to get add-on’s to my other AO’s.  My go-to AO is the Orga Beat for all my alt’s.  One thing to keep in mind is that this is not the place to go for cutting edge, new AO’s.  It seems that what they have is what they have.

Tutys Burlesque AO Ad
·        Tuty’s – This place is a hit or miss.  Why?  Because these AO’s go from subtle to so over the top it’s embarrassing.  Unless that is what you are going for.  If you are looking for an AO for a theme like Geisha, Glam, Model, Drunk, Yoga, etc then this is the place to go.   Of all the stores here this is one where I highly recommend you test out the AO’s.  Take your time here.  Most of these are not subtle AO’s.  Many are exactly what they are named after and nothing less.  For example, the Candy Girl AO is super duper sexy cute but over the top like bending over, getting down to your knees, sticking your booty out any chance you can get sexy.  It is in no way subtle. The same goes for a few others I have purchased: The Wildcat, Pin-Up Doll, & Hot & Dirty to name a few.  With that said I own some wonderful AO’s from here and they are all only 350L each! They also offer both a priority 3 & 4 version of all their AO’s so you do not have to worry about animation conflicts while wearing these most of the time. I learned after making 4 not so good purchases from here that I needed to take my time if I chose to shop at Tuty’s. Some of my favorites include the Lonely & Shy Girl AO, Shy Girl AO for Boobies, Brooklyn Girl for Boobies, Dainty Girl AO, Sensual AO and Lonely Girl AO.
·        Gaeline’s Animations – This is another place that can be a hit or miss and the price of the AO is much higher than Tuty’s.  There are a variety of AO’s to fit various personality types and situations.  They have AO’s from the sensual, smart and feminine to the fantasy fairy and even a cellphone AO.  Their lower end AO’s are their older AO’s and I tend to like a few of those better than the newer ones. :X  Yeah, I am weird.  I am a real big fan of their Lovely Girl AO 2 & 3 and the Cute Girl AO (which can be obtained free through their Mania board).  These range from 600-750L.  Their newer AO’s range from 1000-1500L+.  I only own one of their newer AO’s and it is the Smart Girl AO.  I love it and use it when I want a more glamorous or elegant AO that is subtle and sexy.  I have demoed many of their other AO’s and find that they are to “fidgety” for my tastes.
·        SEMotions – Again, this is another hit or miss.  They have a wide variety of choices but the names of the AO’s do not always give you an idea of what exactly they are supposed to represent.  For example the Lucky Girl AO. Umm, what exactly is a "lucky girl" and how does she move? You really have to demo these ones as they are not cheap.  These range from very subtle to super fidgety (at least for me).  I am not a big fan of AO’s that have me pacing long distances or in circles constantly.  I have purchased a few that do just this and have had some buyers remorse.  Really watch these animations all the way through as what might seem sublte will turn into a long animation of constant pacing and fidgeting.  That said I have 2 specific AO’s from here that I love dearly: Infinity AO and the Naughty AO.  Infinity is an older AO.  Those are on sale for a really good deal!  The Naughty AO is a higher end AO and cost me about 1400L.  If I want to look naughty then I use this one.  I was hesitant as other naughty AO’s are just way too much but not this one!  One thing to keep in mind is that all of these AO’s have to be priority 4 (I am taking a wild guess as they do not specify) as they override 90% of any animation.  You always have to turn off these AO’s and there are no options for a lower priority animated version.  These AO’s all have free updates which are a major plus!
·        Abranimations: The last place I have an AO from is Abranimations.  Abranimations is very popular and I do love many of their fun animations like the fire dancing and breathing.  I am not a huge fan of their dancing animations (many seem odd too me) and not that big of a fan of their AO’s.  With that said, I can see why many do love their AO’s.  I had a bunch of their free AO’s and enjoyed using them.  They no longer have the table of free AO’s which is a bummer.  I do own their Mood AO for female avis.  I like this AO.  It has tons of animations, not all I like, but the features on this AO are simply awesome and I like how I can express how I feel on a whim.  One thing that this AO fails at, like many of the others do, is the dang girly, odd walks and runs and some poses are simply way over the top.  There is a video for this AO.  I suggest you watch it along with their other videos to see if this and any of their other AO’s are right for you.  This AO along with their others range from 900L – 1900L+.

There are many other AO shops out there.  I have visited others and have found the above shops to have at least 1 AO I liked or desired.  Just take your time AO shopping and I know you will find the AO or AO’s that fit your personality, mood or roleplay.

Review: Oh How I love My Maitreya Body!

PLEASE NOTE: Please try the demo's inworld for these mesh bodies.  And when I say try I mean really play with them.  The biggest mistake people make is only trying a demo for a couple minutes and then purchasing the body only to realize that the body is not for them.  I was once like most of you and made a couple not so great purchases in SL that cost me quite a bit of Linden.  Now, when I demo I press every button on the HUDs, try on tons of mesh clothing to test the alpha system and play with appliers (if the demo is capable).

For my reviews I will focus on five key points: The Look & Customization, Ease of Use (ex: HUD, Lag, etc), Backwards Compatibility (Omega, Slink, etc), & Shopping/Applier Experience.

Overview:  The Lara body by Maitreya is one of the easiest and most complete fitmesh bodies available on the market.  The cost is about mid priced in between the lower cost Lena and Slink Bodies and the higher end Belleza and Mesh Project bodies. The Lara body only comes in one size and can look great until you get up into the higher body fat percentages (>24%). Lara comes with a HUD that includes clothing layer options, an alpha system and skins.  The skins available with the body are made by Glam Affair, which is a well known skin shop in Second Life.  The body comes with additional hands and feet of its own that you can attach separately to the body.  The HUD also has a unique head/neck joint feature that can hide the gap that occurs between mesh bodies and the standard avatars head.  The best part of all is that this body is Omega compatible!  Which means that there are more clothing options for you out on the market.

The Look & Customization:  Of all the bodies released so far, and of all the ones I currently own, Lara is my favorite body and I find I use this body more than any other I own.  It is extremely popular in Second Life right now.  This body is very close to the standard avi shape but customization, in terms of size, is limited.  Once you get above 24% body fat the body looks odd around the head and neck.  This is bad news for those who want a fuller figured fitted mesh body as there are very few options right now. Personally my body fat is at 20% using the Lara body and I am very satisfied with the look.  Now for the boob shape:  Of all the bodies Lara has the nicest but it still has the common standard avatar issue of having boobs that are just too small, not that I want huge boobs but I am bigger (irl) and want it.  I know I am not the only one out there that feels this way and as long as this limitation exists on these mesh bodies fitted mesh breasts will always be around (imho).

Ease of Use:  Lara shines in this department because it is so easy to use.  Even using Omega with it is easy!  The HUD is pretty straight forward with two tabs: Alpha/ Clothing Layers and Skins.  The alpha HUD allows for the best customization for your mesh clothing out there.  To me, it is the best alpha HUD for clothing on the market.  There are some limitations with wearing certain shirt styles on the upper body.  I am hoping this will be addressed in the future. The body also loads textures quickly which will make getting dressed go a little faster than most other bodies.

The HUD is easy to use and you can wear so many different styles with it with very few issues.  The neck hide feature is a great add on for those that use the provided skins.  For everyone else, you have to skin match and I know how much we all love doing that (yuck!).  While Glam Affair skins are a great option for most in SL those of us who land between the India (too light) and the Africa (too dark) colors are SOL.  Sorry, but like most skin designers, they forget there is a whole host of darker shades out there and not a mere 1 or 2.  The Maitreya skin HUD does offer an option after India but before Africa but good luck finding it.  I was told it is sold in the Maitreya store but if you wear implants of any kind then you are SOL. That color was a summer 2014 release and you won’t find it sold anywhere.  (Someone help me if I am wrong here)  So, if you are like 90% of people in SL, then you have good skin options but, for those of us darker gals, we will have to move on and get creative.

Another issue to note is that tattoos that go up into the neck area, for the most part, do not cover the full neck of this body.  For these tattoos, you have to wear the system tattoo layer or shirt layer, in addition to applying the actual tattoo applier, so that the tattoo continuously goes from the low neck into the head.  The extended head/neck joint creates a gap where the tattoo does not cover.  See image below.  Because of this you can do 1 of 3 things: cover the area with a choker or necklace, just deal with the gap or contact the creator & hope the creator releases a Maitreya applier for the tattoo.

Gap on the tattoo where the head and neck glitch occurs on Maitreya using a regular Omega tattoo applier and the added standard avi tattoo layer going into the base of the skull.  This is not an Omega issue its just the way Lara was made.

A major downside, like most of the mesh bodies, is that you cannot clear your clothing layers when changing.  There is a free option on the MP.  You can check in the links at the end of this article to find it.  Its just another HUD to wear so that you can clear your layers.  There are some issues where the applier texture will show when you use the alpha, even when the layer is disabled.  All I do is enable and disable the layer and the problem is fixed.  I really do not have issues getting confused over what is on what layer but I guess I am in the minority.  And, like many other HUDs, the Maitreya HUD is HUGE!!!  Like it takes up the whole top left of my viewer (when Minimized).  When Maximized, it makes seeing my body while dressing a challenge in some cases.  My AO HUDs usually land in the upper left of the viewer so I have to detach the Maitreya HUD when I am not dressing.

Backwards Compatibility:  So now on to some big questions: Can I still wear my mesh parts with the Lara body?  The answer is yes.  The body is compatible with slink hands and feet.  It does come with its own hands and feet as well.  And while I see that the hands are good, it just seems silly to try and reinvent the wheel and make another different sized pair of feet in similar shapes to the slink ones but do not quite fit the slink shoes exactly (ugh, headaches!).  I am also able to wear my fitted mesh breasts with this body.  I use both Cherry Bomb and Sinful Needs and they attach perfectly with very little seam showing. (I also use optimal windlighting to hide seams most of the time.  I use "analu studio 5" or "Tron Legacy Clean".  If others complain of seams tell them to use an optimal setting.  If they refuse then screw them!!  Mesh is the way of the future so they need to either change or deal with seeing more seams on more bodies.)

The best part about this body is that it is Omega compatible.  Omega is a universal applier system that is used by 95% of mesh bodies and parts!  This body uses a relay HUD that must be worn when you dress.  This is as easy as it can get for Omega appliers.  There is no need to edit the content of your body to add an omega script so there is less confusion!  Check out the Love n Lust blog to learn more about their revolutionary Omega system.  (See credits below).  Because it can use Omega, appliers shopping for your mesh body is easy as many designers are switching over to Omega.  Most Lolas appliers can also be worn with an Omega enabled body (as long as the full texture was used and not just the boob texture)  Azz, Ghetto Booty and Brazillia appliers can also be converted using Omega kits so that you can wear many of your older styles with your new body.  Lena appliers can also be converted to Omega appliers.

Shopping experience:
Because of the ability to wear Omega appliers shopping is not difficult for this mesh body!  Yay!  Also, more and more designers are making Maitreya appliers so your options are growing.  The Omega system is also virtually free when you join the Love n Lust group and grab the kit inworld at their store.  I think its about 4L versus the 99L you will pay at the affiliate kiosks (what you see in most stores) and the Marketplace.

In conclusion, this body is probably the best option on the market for those who want an easy to use, fast loading body and do not desire to have a higher body fat percentage.  For those ladies, you will have to wait and see what the future holds.  The cost of this body is on the higher end of pricing but not as bad as Belleza and nowhere near as high as the Mesh Projects Body is.  If you are going to save for a mesh body I suggest this one be your target at the moment.  But who knows what is in store, maybe we will see more bodies surface from creators of the ghetto booty and phat azz.  We can only hope right. ;)  On a scale from 1-10 with 10 being the super awesomest, bestest body ever I give this one a 9!  Yeah, its good but it isn't perfect.  The standard avi body, though outdated looking, is still easier to use, has less glitches and has the most customization with no HUDs and tons of fashion available to wear.

Mesh Bodies Review: Lena Perky & Lush by Kitties Lair

The Lena Lush: A body for those who desire a thicker, more curvy shape that can utilize a higher body fat percentage than standard avatar shapes.

The Lena Perky: A body that closely aligns with the standard avatar shape but can easily be modified for those who like a mid percentage of body fat and beautiful curves.

PLEASE NOTE: Please try the demo's inworld for these mesh bodies.  And when I say try I mean really play with them.  The biggest mistake people make is only trying a demo for a couple minutes and then purchasing the body only to realize that the body is not for them.  When I demo I press every button on the HUDs, try on tons of mesh clothing to test the alpha system and play with appliers (if the demo is capable).

For my reviews I will focus on five key points: The Look & Customization, Ease of Use (ex: HUD, Lag, etc), Backwards Compatibility (Omega, Slink, etc), & Shopping/Applier Experience.

Overview:  The Lena Bodies by Kitties Lair offer a moderately easy to use body at the lowest cost on the market right now for mesh bodies. Kitie Lair offers two shapes for your buying pleasure: the Lush shape, for more full figured avis, and the Perky shape which is closer to the standard avi body.  Both bodies come with a HUD that includes clothing layer options, an alpha system and skins.  There is even an option on their HUD to assign your partner your body allowing there to be more interaction during those private moments. ;)

The Look & Customization:  First off I want to say that Lena Perky was my second mesh body purchased and, in terms of looks and ability to get the shape to the thickness I want, it is hands down the best, for me.  This is probably one of the most beautiful bodies out in Second Life and I get more comments about my body, especially my butt, when I wear the Lena Perky body than I do wearing any other.  The Lush is also a great option for those who want a full figure.  Out of all the bodies out there Lena Lush is only one of two that can accommodate a fuller figure and higher body fat percentage.  The other body being The Perfect Body XL.  Playing with the sliders on these bodies produces some nice results, especially if you are looking for a more "realistic" shaped body. If you are one of those who are afraid of "porn star" sized boobies ( I take offense to that!) then fear not.  The boobs on both bodies are similar to the standard avi (which to me isnt realistic at all since I have what some consider "porn star boobies" in real life without the surgery. Haters gotta hate.)

Ease of Use:  Now this is where Lena both hits the mark and goes way below.  Lets start off with the good:  The HUD features of clothing layers is top notch.  It has your basic top, pant, bra, underwear and tattoo layers plus a skirt and nipple layer.  This HUD also has the added benefit of a "clear" button.  Most of the HUDs I have tried only allow you to hide the clothing layer, which can confuse many when it comes to changing clothes.  The Lena HUD gets rid of that and allows you to completely clear the clothing layer, reducing confusion during dress time.

The HUD also has an extras tab on it where you can add a new "owner" to your body.  This gives the person access to your clothing layers!  Yay for sexy fun.  You also do not have to worry about the disappearing/reappearing tattoo and bra layers with this body.  Unlike the others, my tattoos always show and never just vanish.  No need to use an alpha mode with this body!  Textures also load quickly so dressing can happen at a much faster pace when using appliers. Now that the good parts have been mentioned, it is time to go to the not so good parts.

This body, in my eyes, would be the perfect body or one of the top contenders on the market if the alpha layer system was better.  When it comes to wearing mesh clothing you are S.O.L. for the most part.  The alpha system hides huge chunks of the body making it very difficult to wear mesh clothing with intricate designs and shapes.  The alpha system does not allow for right and left hiding, so asymmetrical outfits can be very difficult to wear, and there are no options to hide the front and back of the body.  So, if you love this body then you can do what I did and wear it only for applier clothing and get another mesh body for mesh clothing.  Yes, I know that's a lot of Linden but the Lena bodies are low cost and a good alternative when you want simplicity versus a higher end mesh body.

Backwards Compatibility:  So now on to some big questions: Can I still wear my mesh parts with the Lena bodies?  The answer is yes.  Both bodies are compatible with slink hands and feet.  Kitties Lair has also released matching feet and hands of their own if you prefer to use those.  They are not included with the body.  I am able to wear my fitted mesh breasts with my Perky body.  I use both Cherry Bomb and Sinful Needs and they attach perfectly with  very little seam showing.  This body, like the others, has the neck gap issue.  I wear the Slink neck gap attachment with this and it looks okay.  I like wearing chokers so thats the best alternative to this issue.

The best part about this body is that it is Omega compatible.  Omega is a universal applier system that is used by 95% of mesh bodies and parts!  The script to put into your body is practically free, inworld with group join, at the Love in Lust sim.  Check out their blog to learn more about this revolutionary system.  (See credits below).  Because it can use Omega appliers shopping for your mesh body is easy as many designers are switching over to Omega.  Most Lolas appliers can also be worn with an Omega enabled body (as long as the full texture was used and not just the boob texture)  Azz, Ghetto Booty and Brazillia appliers can also be converted using Omega kits so that you can wear many of your older styles with your new body.

Shopping experience:  Because of the ability to wear Omega appliers shopping is not difficult for this mesh body!  Yay!  Also, more and more designers are making Lena appliers so your options are growing.

Overall, this body is a great starter mesh body or applier only body to purchase.  Until they fix the alpha system (if they ever do), I would avoid wearing mesh with it.  It is a headache to try on mesh clothing only to find that the alpha gaps show.  The price, at 899L, is perfect for the budget shopper.  This body looks great and rezzes quickly.  There are no disappearing layers and your freedom to play with the body sliders is high.  On a scale from 1-10 I give this body a 7.5.

Mesh Body Reviews: The Fitted Mesh Bodies

Second Life is going through a massive change and it is awesome!  The change is mesh and fitted mesh products and, as someone who has an HD monitor and high end graphics card, I am excited to see this.  Mesh not only looks amazing on my screen but it moves smoothly and just looks oh so shiny!  Honestly, if it wasn't for mesh, I probably would have moved on to another virtual world.  Let's face it, without mesh SL would look outdated and not be friendly for creative expression.  There are many who would disagree with me.  They don't like the fact that they have to update their PC's, run their viewer on a higher graphics setting or think that mesh is just a money making scheme from Linden Labs.  Well, I hate to break it to those people, but technology as a whole IS A MONEY MAKING BUSINESS!  Change is inevitable.  In order to grow one MUST change.  That is the beauty of life and technology is a big part of it.  Linden Labs is a business and it needs to drive customers in.  Without it's residents the company would be nothing and without mesh many old and new residents would move on to other virtual worlds.  Its a fact so those Haters can deal with it.

Off my soap box and into the good stuff!

Below there is a list of links to various mesh bodies that I own and have used extensively.  All my reviews are honest reviews.  I won't sugar coat things.  I think that in the huge blog world of SL we see too many pretty pictures but no real substance as to the practicality of the products in the images.  Not to say that I don't post my fair share of pretty images.  I just feel that more needs to be shared in terms of product reviews so people,  like me, don't spend thousands of linden on an okay product.  That being said, go ahead, click away and learn about my experiences with these fitted mesh bodies.  Yay!
